When you think of the Academy Awards the big question on your mind is, “who is going to win the most awards throughout the night?”. This year, with the many controversies surrounding Hollywood, many are wondering “what will be said during the speeches of the award winners?”.
As we saw in the Golden Globe Awards, many used their opportunity on stage to address the issues of gender wage gaps, racial inequality, and the many, sexual harassment scandals. Most of the award-goers, from Tracee Ellis Ross to Meryl Streep, came to the red carpet wearing all black. The celebrities wore the dark color to represent the Time’s Up campaign, a movement against sexual harassment in the workplace.
The upcoming 90th Academy Awards show will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel on March 4th at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The most successful movies of the year are going head to head. Many are waiting for the best picture award to be announced. With amazing nominations, like The Shape of Water, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, Phantom Thread, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Get Out, The Post, Call Me by Your Name, and Ladybird. Only the best films will be honored by the Academy. The most popular movies have been recognized within today’s society. “Get Out” represents the racial prejudices in today’s world, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” draws attention to sexual harassment, and “The Post” portrays female empowerment. These selected films each bring unique and special qualities to this year’s awards.
Look out for the awards show airing on the ABC channel this coming March.
